Technology and Literacy

Both technology and literacy hold a special place in my heart and my teaching. In this classroom, I feel that it is important to intersect technology and literacy together, to create a learning that is vital to the skills of 21st century learners. Made avaliable to the students is a tablet cart with 15 brand new Samsung tablets. While we may not have 1 to 1 technology capabilities, the students will learn how to collaborate, work together, and facilitate learning with a tablet partner when used with the whole class. The students will also have their own time to explore learning with technology on their own to develop well-roundedness in each and every student.

Throughout the year, you will find that literacy learning will be supported in many different ways with the use of technology. Students will explore many different literacy apps that will help in their construction of literacy skills. Students will use apps that help with letter formation, recognition, and sounds. They will use the app EPIC! which provides an extremely large book library. Lastly, they will use apps that allow them to explore cvc words and digraphs. They will also use technology to create their own digital learning portfolio through the app Seesaw. Gain access to your child's journal to view videos, pictures and drawings of their learning.

ISTE and ELA Standards
Your child's education is grounded in standards. Standards are important as they create the foundation for your child's learning. Below are some standards that are important to your child's literacy and technology integration. While this is just some of the standards that are found in our classroom, feel free to click the links to explore them all.
